Cody Commotion- New and Old

Any day out-and-about with my Gypsy Cohort is a good day. This adventure – we kept it local to see tourist attractions that as a local are easily overlooked and simply seen as a rise in traffic as travelers come and go.

Cody is has a lot to offer to the traveling soul, it’s easy to find the western experience of rodeos, gunfights, and wagon rides. Also, there is plenty of stores and local places to keep the avid shopper happy. Being right at the edge of Yellowstone and Shoshone National Park it is perfect for catching a breath of fresh air.

This evening we spent exploring old favorites and new adventures, The Gunfights and 3G Covered Wagon Rides.

The Wild Bunch Gunfighters-

The gunfights in Cody have been a staple attraction since Kenny Martin, started The Cody Gunfighters in 1979, performing on the boardwalk of the Buffalo Bill Village.

In 2017 the Gun Show saw some major changes after the summer of 2016 when a performer allegedly fired 5 lead round ball into the crowd by mistake rather than blanks and injuring 3 people.

The Cody Gunfighters was disbanded but The Wild Bunch took over the tradition and implemented extensive safety measures such as replica guns incapable of shooting projectiles and a “Gun Saftey Manager” who checks and prepares each of the actor’s guns before the show.

This is a free show that spectators can sit on the front porch of the Irma Hotel and watch a story unfold between well-known names of the Wild West. The show runs Monday – Saturday at 6 PM.

3G Covered Wagon Rides-

These wagon rides are a new family operated attraction in town located right outside the Cody Fairgrounds making it perfect for taking a short ride lasting about 30 minutes and picking up some more Cody history before heading to the rodeo. Settle in for a bumpy ride through history while taking in the beautiful Wyoming sounds and scenery. The drivers are knowledgeable and the horses are kind, embodying true Wyoming lifestyle. Read more about them at https://3gwagonrides.com/.

We finished with a late night breakfast at Granny’s, a comfortable cafe, and a healthy bit of laughter. May your adventures be grand and your days just as happy.

This post can also be seen at Wyoming in Motion.

Cheers!
